Survival Na Talent

Survival Na Talent — A Nigerian Satire

There are countries where people survive because systems work. Then there is Nigeria. A country where survival itself is a certified skill.

Forget Harvard degree. Forget PhD. Forget ten years experience. If you fit survive Nigeria without depression, hypertension, spiritual confusion, and one uncle asking you for urgent 2k — congratulations. You are talented.

In fact, Nigeria should start issuing certificates: "Certified Survival Specialist (CSS)." Because surviving Nigeria no be normal human achievement.

The Nigerian Morning Olympics

For many Nigerians, the day begins with prayer. Not ordinary prayer. Emergency prayer. Because before 8am, life has already tested your faith.

You wake up by 4:30am because NEPA took light at 2am. Generator fuel don finish. Your phone battery na 7%. You still have Zoom meeting by 8. Water no dey run. Network dey behave like village masquerade — appearing and disappearing without warning.

Yet somehow… Nigerian still bath, dress sharp, post motivational quote online: "Keep pushing, greatness is near." Near where? Nobody knows. But we are pushing.

Transportation: A Survival Game Show

In other countries, transport is movement. In Nigeria, transport is destiny.

You leave house expecting 30 minutes journey. Three hours later, you are still inside traffic discussing national problems with strangers. One danfo driver don become motivational speaker. Conductor shouting: "Oshodi! CMS! If you no enter now, na next year!"

The road? Half road. Half swimming pool. Half archaeological site. Nobody knows whether government is repairing road or excavating history.

Yet Nigerians adapt. If road spoil, bike enter. If bike no fit pass, keke enter. If keke fail, leg na Benz. Because survival no dey wait for excuses.

Nigerian Food Economics

Nigeria is the only place where people price food like they are negotiating international oil contracts. "How much tomato?" "₦5,000." "Tomato or land?"

Pepper suddenly became luxury item. Egg now has social class. People no longer fry egg casually. Before you break egg, family meeting must hold: "Are we emotionally and financially ready for this sacrifice?"

Still, Nigerians survive. We become masters of improvisation. Rice and stew become rice and imagination. Meat becomes "essence of meat." You no see meat, but soup remembers meat once existed.

Fuel Scarcity: National Character Development Program

Nigeria has one special annual event: Fuel Scarcity Season. Nobody knows who organizes it. Nobody knows why it returns. But it always comes.

Suddenly, queue becomes part of citizenship. You can spend six hours at filling station and still thank God. Some people even make new friends there. Relationships don start for fuel line. Business deals don happen for fuel queue. One man entered queue single. Came back engaged. Because in Nigeria, suffering builds community.

Politics: The Greatest Comedy Series Ever Produced

Nigerian politicians are special people. Very special.

During election: "My people! I am your servant!" After election: Appointment by miracle only. Phone switched off. Convoy now longer than village road. Promises disappear faster than free food in wedding reception.

Before election: "We will create jobs!" After election: "Please be patient."

Nigerians too are talented. We complain loudly in barber shop. Fight online. Turn political analysts overnight. Then election comes… and amnesia enters.

Nigerian Parent Motivation Department

Nigerian parents deserve award. Especially motivational department. No matter your suffering, somebody's mother will still say: "When I was your age, I trekked 19 kilometers to school!" Nobody asked. But story must continue.

If you complain: "You people have it easy." Easy? Rent is high. Food expensive. Salary doing hide and seek. Still, Nigerian parents believe motivation is shouting.

Church, Mosque, and Spiritual Survival

Nigeria is deeply spiritual. Because honestly, without prayer, many people for don resign from existence.

Before salary: Prayer. After salary: More prayer. Before entering bus: Prayer. After hearing hospital bill: Fasting. Even generator start with prayer: "God abeg, let this thing work." In Nigeria, faith and survival are cousins.

The Real Nigerian Superpower

The biggest Nigerian talent is not football. Not music. Not comedy. It is adaptation. Nigerians can adapt to anything.

No light? Candles. No fuel? Push. No network? Climb upstairs. No job? Start business. Business fail? Become content creator. Content fail? Motivational speaker. Motivational speaking fail? "Crypto expert." We adjust faster than software update.

Final Thought: Survival Na Talent

The truth is this: Nigeria is difficult. But Nigerians are harder. People wake every morning and still find reason to laugh. Still help neighbors. Still celebrate weddings. Still dance at parties. Still shout: "We move!"

And maybe that is the greatest satire of all. A country that frustrates people daily… yet the people somehow remain joyful.

So if nobody has told you today: Congratulations. If you are surviving Nigeria — you are talented.
